World Wildlife Day 2021

Conserve and celebrate our great outdoors

THE last 12 months have seen our lives restricted in a way that few of us could ever have envisaged.

There is no doubt that it has been, and continues to be, a trying time and one thing for which we can all be grateful is the ability to get outside and enjoy our local surroundings especially if they include countryside, wooded areas, parkland or the coast.

United Nations World Wildlife Day on March 3 aims to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants, gives us the chance to celebrate and show our appreciation for the great outdoors.

This year’s theme, Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and the Planet, highlights the central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally particularly those indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest adjacent areas.

Between 200 and 350 million people around the world rely on the various ecosystems provided by forest and forest species for the livelihood and to provide their most basic needs including food, shelter, energy and medicine.

The wide-reaching impact of forests may seem a bit distant for those of us whose experience barely extends beyond a weekend walk through our local wood but wildlife conservation is an issue which needs attention and action every day, no matter where we might be in the world.

As leading chemical contract manufacturers and packers specialising in agrochemicals and horticultural chemicals, Grotech Production Ltd prides itself on being as environmentally responsible and sustainable as possible. Not only do we work proactively with our customers to develop effective biopesticidal products that negate any harmful impact on the environment but we are keen to do our bit – and encourage others to do likewise – to protect the world which we inhabit.

The people behind World Wildlife Day encourage #DoOneThingToday to make a difference and help wildlife conservation. This could be:

  • Set a goal to live your life with the minimal negative impact on the environment;
  • Consume responsibly by not purchasing products made from illegally sourced or protected wildlife;
  • Volunteer your time to protect our local surroundings by helping to keep our countryside, forests and beach areas clean and maintaining these habitats for the wildlife that occupies them.

The great outdoors has been the one constant in our lives during this Coronavirus Pandemic. Don’t we owe it to all those that share and live in it to look after it?
