World Food Day 2021

FACTORS affecting food production differ around the world. Varying climates, weather, soil conditions and favoured diets all have an impact.

This year World Food Day (October 16) is prompting us to give thought to ‘Our Actions are our Future’ stating that the food we choose and the way we consume it affects our health and that of our planet. It also has an impact on the way agri-food systems work.

A sustainable agri-food system is one where a variety of sufficient, nutritious and safe foods are available at an affordable price to all and nobody is hungry or suffers from any form of malnutrition.

According to the United Nations, the organisation behind World Health Day, almost 40% of the world’s population – three billion plus people – cannot afford a healthy diet yet in many nations, obesity continues to increase.

The Coronavirus Pandemic has shone a light on the inequalities and discrepancies in our food supply chain system. While farmers struggle to sell harvests, rising poverty is forcing many urban residents to turn to food banks or apply for emergency food aid.

The UN says sustainable agri-food systems capable of feeding 10 billion people worldwide by 2050 are required and are calling for action in the way of new policies that encourage sustainable production of nutritious foods, promote farmer participation, boost rural incomes, safeguard smallholders and help with climate variability and extremes.

Grotech Production Ltd has some 40+ years’ experience of working in the agrochem industry. The bespoke nature of our work means we have worked with numerous customers on products which aim to overcome issues, some linked to climate variability, relating to the successful growth of food crops around the world.

Amongst others, we have helped vegetable producers in the UK and Europe target parasites in carrots to prevent them becoming malformed and have improved the yield for cabbage growers in Ireland due to specialist fertiliser and growth stimulant products.

Formulation experts, our technical team has a wealth of experience in working with product developers on specialised agricultural products that will help overcome environmental deficiencies and boost plant growth.

Do you have a product that could help make food production more sustainable and successful? Perhaps it is something we could help with in order to bring it to market? Why not act now for the future?
